For the 32nd time in UFC history, a championship doubleheader tops a fight card when UFC 187 takes place Saturday at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. Of those 32 multi-title fight cards, only one (UFC 33) has featured light heavyweight and middleweight championship matchups.
UFC 187 is second, though. Anthony Johnson (17-4 MMA, 10-4 UFC) and Daniel Cormier (15-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) battle for the vacant 205-pound title recently stripped from Jon Jones. Chris Weidman (12-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC) puts his 185-pound strap in the line against Vitor Belfort (24-10 MMA, 13-6 UFC) in the co-main event.
The organization’s annual Memorial Day weekend showcase is typically one of its biggest each year. That’s no different in 2015; 12 fighters currently ranked in the top 15 of the latest USA TODAY MMA rankings compete on the card.
